Irma Grese was born on October 7th, 1923. She joined the Nazi party in her teenage years, but the exact date is unknown. She was temporarily stationed at Ravensbruk, officially becoming a Nazi guard. Irma was moved to Auschwitz in 1943, which was where she became the nightmare she is now famous for.
Grese adorned custom tailored outfits, and whipped all female prisoners who retained any of their pre-Holocaust beauty. During roll calls, Grese would stage shootings, whippings, and when she was feeling extra vicious, she would release starved camp dogs onto the female prisoners.
Irma seduced high ranking SS officers, including the infamous Josef Mengele. Grese found out she was pregnant, but convinced a camp doctor to give her an illegal abortion, saying that she couldn’t have a child if she was to continue on to stardom. Grese worked at Bergen-Belsen briefly, and continued the same behavior.
In 1945, Grese was captured by Allied forces, and finally received fame. She was given a 54 day trial, where she remained faithful to the Nazi party. Irma Grese was hanged in the Nuremberg Trials on December 13th, 1945. Prisoners remember for her cruelty, and adorned her several nicknames, including the “Beast of Belsen”. She remains infamous after her death, and certainly won’t be forgotten soon.
